LITERATURE


LITERATURE is a written works such as poems, novels etc. That has a lasting importance in our world. It has an intelectual value and its also a work-of-art. Its a universal interest and it is also a written account. 

Literature has three (3) parts. The first one is the POETRY, second is the PROSE and of course the third one is the DRAMA. Let us first begin in the POETRY.


POETRY has also three (3) parts. The LYRIC, NARRATIVE and the DRAMATIC. The types of LYRIC are the following: BALLAD - a kind of poem or song that tells a story. The example of this is "Lord Randal My Son". SONG - a short piece of music with words that is sung. SONNET - a poem that made up of 14 lines that rhyme in a fixed pattern. The two (2) types of SONNET are THE SHAKESPEAREAN and the PETRARCHAN SONNET. Next is the PASTORAL. ODE - a poem which is a person expresses a strong feeling of love or respect to someone or something. And the last one is ELEGY - a song or a poem that expresses a sorrow for someone that is dead. 

Now lets go to the second part of the LYRIC, the NARRATIVE. There is only one type of NARRATIVE, the EPIC. EPIC - tells a story about a hero or exciting exciting events or adventures. 

The last part of the LYRIC is the DRAMATIC. Under DRAMATIC are the following: MELODRAMA - a drama in which people have very strong or exaggerated emotions. MUSICAL DRAMA - a play that tells a story with songs often dancing.

PROSE has two (2) parts, the fiction and non-fiction. The examples of fiction are the following: NOVELS - a long written story usually about imaginary characters and events. SHORT STORIES - a short written story usually dealing with few characters. MYTHS - an idea or story that that is believed byany people but that is not true. TALES - a story about imaginary events. LEGENDS - a story from the past that is believed ny many people but cannot be proved to be true.

The second and the last part of PROSE is the NON-FICTION. The examples of NON-FICTION are the following: DIARIES - a book in which you wright down your personal experiences and thoughts each day. BIOGRAPHY - a story of a real person's life that is written other than that someone. ESSAY - a short piece of writing that tells a person's thougjts or opinions about a subject. SPEECH - a spoken expression of ideas, opinions etc. AUTO-BIOGRAPHY - a biography written by the person it is about.

The last part of literature is the DRAMA. DRAMA has five (5) parts. The examples of DRAMA is the following: COMEDY - a play, movie etc. That is meant to make people laugh. TRAGIC - involving sad or serious topics. TRAGICOMEDY - a play, movie etc. That both funny and sad. FARCE - a funny play or movie about ridiculous situations and events. And the last one is the PANTOMIME - a way of expressing information or telling a story without words by using body movements and facial expressions.

2nd Quarter Lessons -INTRODUCTION-           Neoclassical literature  was written between 1660 and 1798. This time period is broken down into three parts: the  Restoration period , the  Augustan period , and the  Age of Johnson .          Writers of the Neoclassical period tried to imitate the style of the Romans and Greeks. Thus the combination of the terms 'neo,' which means 'new,' and 'classical,' as in the day of the Roman and Greek classics. This was also the era of The Enlightenment, which emphasized logic and reason. It was preceded by The Renaissance and followed by the Romantic era.
